Choose Your Color

There are really three decisions here, not five, because three of the colors are the same ice melt in different dyes. Here is the honest breakdown so you buy the right bag:

• Pink — Magnesium chloride, agricultural-based corrosion inhibitors, and sodium chloride, enhanced with CMA. This is the only Snow Shield™ formula CEL specifically describes as safer for concrete, brick pavers, and landscaping, and CEL states it greatly reduces the metal corrosion common with straight rock salt or calcium chloride. If you have hardscape, plantings, or a paver patio, buy Pink.
• Blue, Green & Orange — One shared blend: calcium chloride, potassium acetate, and sodium chloride, encapsulated with CMA. These three are the same ice melt in different dyes. Pick between them purely on which color you can see best on your surface — orange reads hardest against snow and gray asphalt, blue and green stand out on light concrete.
• White — Calcium chloride, magnesium chloride, and sodium chloride, enhanced with CMA. No dyes or pigments, so nothing colored is left behind in the residual material and nothing tracks indoors. The trade-off is that you cannot see your own coverage while you spread it.

How to Use It

1. Shovel first. Clear as much snow and ice as you can. Ice melt is for the thin layer left behind, not for melting a snowbank, and you will burn through product fast if you skip this.
2. Spread evenly. A light, even scatter beats a heavy pile. With the colored formulas, watch your coverage and stop when the surface is covered. More is not better.
3. Give it time. Let the granules work through the ice and build brine underneath. On thick ice, a second light pass beats one heavy dump.
4. Sweep up excess once melted. Removing leftover product protects your surfaces, your pets' paws, and nearby plantings.

Which color melts best?

Blue, Green, and Orange are the same blend, so none of those three out-melts the others. The real choice is chemistry (Pink vs. the CMA-encapsulated trio vs. dye-free White) and which color you can see on your surface.

I have a paver patio / concrete / plants nearby. Which bag?

Pink. It is the only Snow Shield™ formula CEL specifically describes as safer for concrete, brick pavers, and landscaping, and it is built to reduce the corrosion straight rock salt and calcium chloride cause. Still follow the surface precautions above. No de-icer is risk-free on hardscape.

Will the colored bags stain or track indoors?

The dye in Blue, Green, and Orange is there so you can see coverage, and it stays visible in the residual material until it is rinsed or swept away. If tracked-in color is a concern (light carpet, a white entry, indoor pets), choose White, which has no dyes or pigments, or sweep up excess after it melts.

Is it safe for kids and pets?

Chemical Equipment Labs markets Snow Shield™ as safer for kids, pets, and the environment than straight rock salt or straight calcium chloride, and we use their word, not a stronger one. It is still a de-icing chemical: store it sealed and out of reach, sweep up excess, and wipe paws after a walk. Any ice melt sold as fully "pet safe" is being oversold.
